Waiting in front of our house for the bus.
Colton didn't really care when Abby got on the bus.
Dominic did not want her to leave...or he wanted to ride on the bus, too. We are not quite sure.
She made it to school!
Ready to learn!
Well, it finally happened...I had to send my little girl off on her first day of school. Sure, she went to preschool last year, but that was only 2.5 hours a day twice a week. Hardly enough time for me to get a load of laundry done an have to go pick her up. Now, I had to load her up on a school bus and entrust her safety in the hands of the Gladstone School District bus drivers. Granted, we all met her at school to make sure she got there safely and to walk her to her classroom, but the point is for an hour she was on a bus all by herself. She was cool as a cucumber. I, on the other hand, had a little bit of a nervous breakdown. I have never had experience with school buses. We lived to close to school to ever get to ride the bus, so I had the joy of having my mom drive me everyday. Abby was brave. Braver than I would have been. Her brother did not want to go. Or, I should say, he wanted to go with her. He missed her terribly all day. We are not used to a whole day without her. It was a day filled with trains, cars, and trucks instead of dresses, dolls, and headbands. It was quite the change for me. But, alas, this day was not about me. I had to remind myself that on more than one occassion. It was a rite of passage for my little girl. Her FIRST day of school....Kindegarten Readiness...she will never have that day again. And I have to say, she did fantastic!!! She said she only cried once at lunchtime because she missed me. And I felt bad when I looked in her lunch and her fruit snack (the only junkie thing I sent her to eat) were in the bottom unopened because she couldn't open the package. But she did it. She rode the bus, stayed all day at school, chose to "play with a girl instead of a boy" at recess, had an adult help her find which bus she had to take home, and made it home safely. Whew! I'm so glad the first day is over, and more importantly, I'm glad she's really excited to go back tomorrow!
